On January 17, 2015 Michael and Professor John Borrows of the University of Victoria Faculty of Law co-chaired a national conference focused on finding better ways to address First Nations-Crown treaty disputes. Under the banner “Treaty Right(s): Re-imagining Indigenous Treaties”, the conference brought together 15 Canadian and international scholars. The conference was sponsored by Michael’s four-year SSHRC research grant to support his research into creating more effective systems for implementing First Nation treaties in Canada.
