Michael has been awarded a prestigious national SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) Grant in the amount of $24,986, to analyze what has been written so far about Indigenous peoples’ laws. Understanding Indigenous law, and the diversity of Indigenous peoples’ social orders, will be a key foundation of reconciliation. Essential to Indigenous self-determination, understanding the nature of Indigenous legal orders and how they differ from (and what they share with) Canadian common law, will be key to courts and governments working together in respect with the first peoples in this land.
